Human in the loop

From a cited source

A person placed at the point in a process where it cannot go on without them, to approve, send, pay, override or stop.

Origin. The EU AI Act (2024, Art. 14) requires high-risk AI systems to be "effectively overseen by natural persons", able to override the output or stop the system. (European Parliament and Council of the European Union (2024))

How I use it. I use it for any job, not only high-risk systems.

Not to be confused with

  • Human on the loop: a person who supervises and can step in, but is not needed for each step.

Example. I send every message the market discovery agent drafts. Below the agent that owns an outcome, the agents coordinate with no person in their loop.
