Orchestration
Working definition
How several agents divide a piece of work and pass it between them. In my company, one agent per outcome sets the goals and talks to the people; the agents below it coordinate among themselves.
Origin. Anthropic (2024) calls it the orchestrator-workers workflow: "a central LLM dynamically breaks down tasks, delegates them to worker LLMs, and synthesizes their results". (Erik Schluntz, Barry Zhang (Anthropic) (2024))
How I use it. Mine adds the one agent per outcome that faces the people.
Not to be confused with
- Delegation: giving a whole outcome to an agent; orchestration is how it then divides the work.
Example. When I step in below the agent that owns the outcome, the agents drift. So I talk only to that one.
